| We provide a bespoke service to
companies, which can provide as little or as much as the company requires. We can provide pre-employment medicals, company pension
scheme medicals, sickness-absence medicals and reports, retirement medicals and LGV and
PCV driver medicals.
Medical examinations usually take 40 minutes to
complete and are charged as two standard consultation sessions.
There are no standing charges, registration fees
or on-going costs for these services.
Prescription-Only Medication. We
can prescribe treatments, to appropriate patients, which are either unavailable or are
difficult to obtain from the NHS.
Examples include Relenza (the antiviral
treatment for Flu from Glaxo), Xenical (the fat-blocker treatment from Roche),
Ciproxin (for prevention of travel-related enteritis - see below) and Reductil
and Xenical for weight reduction.
Flu Vaccination -
NHS GPs are strictly prohibited from privately
vaccinating their own NHS patients, who do not fall into the at risk groups (under 65
years of age and not suffering from specified diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and
asthma) against flu.
This means that most healthy working age patients can
only obtain flu vaccination privately. Studies in the US (2006) estimate that the
annual U.S. cost of employee adsence due to flu approaches 10 Billion Dollars.
Proportionate costs are likely in the UK.

In the case of pandemic (avian) flu costs can only
be guessed at.
We can provide Flu vaccination for all employees
at a cost of £15 (in the case of larger emploers discounts
are available). Employees can visit our centre for individual vaccination, but for groups
of 20 or more employees our nurses can visit the workplace
We can also provide the highly effective
antivirals Tamiflu and Relenza which at lower dose protect
against both forms of flu but at higher dose are also highly effective treatments -
in the early stages of flu Relenza virtually aborts the illness. We
can only provide antiviral provision to larger companies of 10 or more individuals because
during any crises there have previously been sudden limitations of stocks due to demand.
The combination of employee vaccination and
antiviral availability for key personnel will provide employers with the maximum
protection currently possible against these eventualities.
Corporate Foreign Travel. Corporate
overseas travel can carry health risks. Routine travel vaccinations (Tetanus, Polio,
Hepatitis A and Typhoid) are ideally obtained from a patient's NHS GP, as these
vaccinations are free under NHS provision and NHS GPs have the best record of each
individual's vaccination history.
Some foreign travel vaccinations have to be
obtained privately - the most common one being Yellow Fever vaccine. We can provide Yellow
Fever vaccination to appropriate patients for a fee of £40 -
including cost of the vaccine and a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate. Yellow Fever
vaccination is a requirement of entry to a number of Central African and Central South
American Countries. We also prescribe Anti-Malarial treatments for
visitors to endemic areas.
Ciprofloxacin. The most
frequently acquired infection from foreign travel is travellers diarrhoea - an infection
usually caused by a foreign strain of the E Coli bowel organism. In some countries where
sanitation is poor, with limited access to bottled water supplies, infection rates can be
very high. Ciproxin (Ciprofloxacin), a quinolone antibiotic, can be taken in these
circumstances to prevent these potentially serious infections.
We can prescribe Ciprofloxacin privately
for prevention of travel-related enteritis - this is not available through the NHS.
Investigations. We provide a
service to take blood samples which are analysed by a local laboratory. The laboratory
charges vary according to how detailed the investigation required but usually fall in the
range of £30 to £40.
Other Corporate Services.
We act as a regional centre for new
employee examination, identifcation and DNA recording for a large Multinational
Company. Prospective employees supply two passport sized photographs and have a full
medical examination, including a lung function test, an HIV (Aids) test and DNA profiling
(in conjunction with Orchid Cellmark). Our fee for this service is £150. Our fee for DNA sampling alone (again in conjunction
with 2 passport photographs of the individual) is £30. The
individual's signature is also recorded at the time of sampling. A separate fee is payable
to Orchid Cellmark for analysis and archiving of the DNA in both instances.

Appointments can be booked via our switchboard but
please ensure that the switchboard are aware if medical is required as our staff will book
40 minute appointment.
